Hi there, my name is Javier Moreno. I am a junior here at Penn State majoring in agricultural and extension education and today you get to take a look at the Earth House, the place where I have lived at ever since I was a freshman here at Penn State.  I hope you enjoy, come on.

 

This is the Earth House, and there is both girls and guys here, so it’s a co-ed kind of place. We are actually living in suites. We’ve got a little living area that I get to share with 3 other people. Not too bad for being a college student, huh? And this is my room. As you can see, it’s just a very nice room for a college student. We’ve got air-conditioning, we’ve got carpeting, which is kind of surprising for college students, and the coolest thing, we only have to share the bathroom with about 3 other people. So that’s not too bad, better than being one bathroom with like 60 people on the floor.

 

One of the cool things that we get to do here at the Earth House is that every Wednesday night we get to go out for dinner. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere where you just get to hang out, catch up with each other, figure out what’s going on in each other’s lives. So it’s a good time to get to know each other a little better. So not only do we recycle, and not only do we help, you know, the Penn State community, but we actually like to have a lot of fun. So we do IM sports. We play volleyball, basketball, soccer, you name it, we’ve got it.

 

One of the advantages of living in the Earth House is that we’ve got pretty nice facilities. I mean you saw my room, you’ve seen this place, it’s beautiful. It was just rebuilt. It was a couple of years ago. And so we have suites, we have our own bathrooms, we’ve got these great sitting lounges. I mean honestly, this is as good as it gets.

 

This is the laundry room, this is where you learn how to do laundry because mom and dad can’t do it for you anymore. So basically we’ve got all these washing machines, we’ve got all these dryers, and all you need to use is actually for your mom and dad to put money in your Penn State ID. You just come here, swipe through and just decide where you are going to do your laundry.

 

This is the Earth House basement, and as you can see, we have a huge screen TV. We have movie nights probably about once a month, once every 2 months and just a nice time for everybody to get to hang out and have a good time.
